Lighting is a key element in any design project. This is even truer if your office is located in a poorly lit NYC building. There are three types of lighting that need to be considered when planning your MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) or RCP (Reflective Ceiling Plan), they are ( 1 ) Ambient Lighting, ( 2 ) Task Lighting, and ( 3 ) Accent Lighting. Ambient Lighting is the "Natural Light" in the space. In terms of lighting installation, these create basic lighting in the room. Like the High-hats in the ceiling, these lights are generally softer and brighten up the whole room. Task lighting on the other hand, Like the Hubbardton Forge Pendants, is generally brighter and more specific in its location. As their name implies, these lights help increase visibility, alertness, and focus (Ideal for office desks or chefs tables). And Finally the Accent Lighting, like the Flushing lighting lights behind the Ann Sacks waterfall wall tiles, these lights are meant to accentuate focal features or artwork in the room and give the space a more sharp and designed feel.
